JRR Tolkien regularly visited Stonyhurst College in Hurst Green and wrote chapters of The Lord of The Rings there.
He walked the surrounding countryside and took inspiration for his wonderful tales from local landmarks.
Shire Lane in Hurst Green? The River Shirebourne, after the local Shireburn family and was Hacking Hall ferry on the Ribble the inspiration for Buckleberry Ferry in the book
